Demographics of Baltimore, MD
Baltimore was the 2nd city in the United States to reach a population of 100,000. It was the 2nd largest city in the nation until 1860, and remained one of the 10 largest cities in the US from 1790-1970s. The city and metropolitan area is ranked in the top 20's in population still. The population dropped greatly over the years, losing about 84,000 residents between 1990-2000. As of the year 2005, the population was 641,943. The Baltimore-Towson metropolitan area, as of 2004 was estimated of around 2,600,000 or so.
The racial groups were 64.43% Black/African American, 31.63% White, 0.32% Native American, 1.53% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.47 Latino/Hispanic, and 0.67% from other races.

Average income for a household in the city was $30,078 a year, and median income for a family was $35,438. About 22.9% of the population, and 18.8% of families were below the poverty level. This included 30.6% under 18, and 18.0% were 65 and older.
There was 25.5% of households were children under 18. About 26.7% were married couples, 25.0% were female householders without a husband, and 43.0% were non-families, 34.9% of all households are made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average size of a household was 2.42, and average family size was 3.16.
The city population was 24.8% under 18, 10.9% were 18-24, 29.9% were 25-44, 21.2% were 45-64, 13.2% were 65 or older. The ratio from females to males is 100:87.4.
